Chiltern Welcomes hosted a post Eid lunch party for our refugee families at the Amersham and Chalfont Hockey Club. For some, it was their first time celebrating Eid in the UK so we wanted to make it one to remember for them. Here's a write up from one of our newest volunteers, Maggi.

Our community came together with simple tables set with food, games, laughter and open hearts.

This gathering was so much more than a meal. It was a chance for human beings many of whom do not speak English to fill the universal language of welcome.

Though we don’t all speak the same words, the smiles, shared dishes and the joyful spirit of Eid transcended those meaningless barriers. With music movement and conversation through gestures, kindness and Google Translate made this space alive with connection.

To everyone who helped make this event possible from volunteers to cooks and to those who simply showed up thank you for being part of something truly and basically human.

Here’s to more moments where joy brings us all together no matter where we’ve come from and what language we speak. Thank you to everyone!
